Breast Implants Surgery in Mexico
Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries worldwide. It involves placing silicone or saline implants into the breast tissue to enhance size, shape, and volume. Patients opt for this procedure for various reasons, such as to restore volume lost due to weight loss or pregnancy, correct asymmetry, or simply achieve fuller breasts.
Procedure & Implant Types:
The hospital offers two main types of breast augmentation.
1. Traditional Implants:
Types of Breast Implants
There are several types of breast implants, each offering different benefits depending on the desired look, feel, and overall goals of the patient:
- Saline Implants: These implants are filled with sterile saltwater and are inserted empty before being filled. They are often a good option for those seeking a more natural look. One benefit of saline implants is that they are easily adjustable in size and require a smaller incision. However, they are more prone to rippling or folding compared to other types.
- Silicone Implants: Silicone implants are pre-filled with a cohesive gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue. These implants tend to be more popular due to their realistic texture and are less likely to ripple. However, silicone implants require a slightly larger incision, and patients must undergo regular imaging to ensure the implant hasn’t ruptured.
- Gummy Bear Implants: Also known as form-stable implants, gummy bear implants are made of a thicker, highly cohesive silicone gel. These implants maintain their shape even when cut, providing a natural, teardrop-like contour. They are ideal for patients looking for a more stable and durable option, but may require a larger incision for placement.
- Round Implants: Round implants are most commonly used and provide the most lift and volume. Due to their symmetrical shape, they create a fuller look across the entire breast. Round implants can shift slightly within the breast pocket without distorting shape, making them a popular choice for those seeking a pronounced result.
– Smooth vs. Textured Implants: Smooth implants move freely in the breast pocket, providing a softer feel. However, they may be more prone to visible rippling. Textured implants adhere to the surrounding tissue, reducing the risk of movement within the pocket and lowering the likelihood of complications such as capsular contracture.
* Remember, as a rule of thumb, every 175 CC of the implant is equivalent to a cup size.
2. Fat Transfer (No-Implant):
An alternative procedure where your own body fat is harvested via liposuction and injected into the breasts for a more “natural” volume increase with minimal scarring.
How Breast Implant Surgery is Performed
Procedure Overview
Breast augmentation surgery typically begins with the patient being placed under general anesthesia. The surgeon then makes incisions in one of three locations, depending on patient preference and the surgeon’s recommendation:
Inframammary (Under the breast): This incision is made in the natural fold where the breast meets the chest, offering the surgeon the best access to the tissue and muscle, and often leads to minimal visible scarring.
Periareolar (Around the nipple): The incision is made along the lower edge of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple, allowing for well-hidden scars, though it can slightly alter nipple sensation.
Transaxillary (Armpit): This less common approach involves making the incision in the natural fold of the armpit. The benefit here is that no scars are left on the breast itself.
Once the incision is made, the surgeon creates a pocket either under the pectoral muscle (submuscular) or over it (subglandular) depending on the implant type, the patient’s anatomy, and the desired outcome. The selected implants are then placed into the pocket, and the surgeon ensures symmetry and positioning. The incisions are closed with sutures and typically covered with surgical tape or adhesive.
After making the incision, the surgeon creates a pocket where the implant will be placed. This pocket can either be:
Submuscular (Under the pectoral muscle): Placing the implant under the chest muscle allows for a more natural look and feel, as the muscle adds extra coverage over the implant. It can also reduce the risk of visible rippling. However, recovery from this method can take slightly longer due to the muscle involvement.
Subglandular (Above the pectoral muscle): In this approach, the implant is placed directly behind the breast tissue but above the muscle. This allows for a quicker recovery and less discomfort post-surgery, but the implant may be more visible in thin patients due to the lack of muscle coverage.
Once the implant is positioned and the surgeon is satisfied with the placement and symmetry of the breasts, the incisions are closed using sutures, skin adhesives, or surgical tape. The area is then bandaged to provide support and reduce swelling.
In the case of silicone implants, they come pre-filled with a cohesive gel before being inserted. Saline implants, on the other hand, are inserted empty and then filled once positioned in the breast pocket.
Finally, the patient is fitted with a special post-operative bra or compression garment to aid healing and provide support to the new breast shape. The entire surgery typically lasts between 1-2 hours, and patients can usually go home the same day, with the recovery process beginning immediately.

Pre-Op Care: Before breast augmentation surgery, patients will have a thorough consultation with the surgeon to discuss goals, implant types, and expected outcomes. They will also undergo a pre-operative examination to ensure they are in good health for surgery. Patients should stop smoking at least two weeks before surgery and avoid certain medications such as blood thinners.
- Avoid eating or drinking after midnight the night before surgery.
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing on the day of surgery, and arrange for someone to drive you home.
Post-Op Care:
- After surgery, patients will experience swelling, bruising, and some discomfort. A special surgical bra or compression garment is often worn to reduce swelling and support healing.
- Prescription pain medication will be provided to manage discomfort in the first few days post-surgery.
- Patients should avoid strenuous activities for 4-6 weeks, and any exercise involving the upper body should be avoided during this time.
- Sleep on your back, elevated with pillows, to minimize pressure on the chest.
Recovery: The initial recovery from breast implant surgery typically takes about 1-2 weeks. During this time, patients will need to rest, avoid heavy lifting, and keep their movements limited to prevent strain on the chest. Full recovery, including the complete subsiding of swelling and the final appearance of the breasts, can take up to 3-6 months.
- Patients can usually return to light activities after a week but should avoid rigorous exercise for at least a month.
- Swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks, but the results will gradually improve.
Risks: While breast augmentation is generally safe, it does come with potential risks, including:
- Capsular Contracture: A condition where scar tissue forms tightly around the implant, causing discomfort or distortion.
- Implant Rupture: If a saline implant ruptures, the body absorbs the saline harmlessly, but a silicone implant rupture may not be immediately noticeable without an MRI.
- Infection and bleeding: As with any surgery, there is a risk of infection or bleeding at the incision site.
- Changes in sensation: Temporary or permanent changes in nipple or breast sensation can occur.
